The Pain in the Spilt Red Liquid

Despite my worries, today went well. I turned up bright and early and ran four successful classes. I structured the lessons well, making time for an opening talk and debate with the students, a period of mind-mapping and forming of ideas, and finally, the first stages of designing their t-shirts. I had prepared templates of a blank shirt for them to add their placement-print designs onto.

I have to say that the younger boys were more enthusiastic and imaginative than the older ones. I was surprised by this, since I expected the 15 year-0lds to be more into fashion and personal identity than the 12 year-olds. But to be fair, most of them worked hard for me, and when it comes to them putting their final designs down next week, we should get some interesting results. I spent a good half an hour with the woman in charge of the pupils afterwards, making sure that she was aware of my intentions for the project and my needs during the time spent at the school.

Today's sombre card is not about me; it shows a friend. In fact, it could be one of a few. It is either the friend who has recently lost her grandfather, since it was his funeral today, or it is another, who wrote and told me that she had just dumped her next-to-useless boyfriend. Despite the loss, for the second mate the card presents a bridge to somewhere new. She cannot see it at the moment and concentrates only on the pain in the spilt red liquid, but soon she will realise that she can do far better than her ex.

  1. So glad teaching went well. I bet you're fantastic at it. I can imagine. I miss teaching art classes, though I admit I was not usually very self-confident but I was open and communicative and I loved interacting with my students and getting them excited in the projects, so I hope that made up for it.

Lotsa hugs to you and your friends who had losses recently,
