Most often, I don't work on things for the simple fun of doing them in the moment. I always involve myself in things with a goal or target, rather than simply enjoying their stand-alone value. Take my Green Tarot as an example. I have not worked on that for some time and have found it hard to summon up the momentum to do so again. It's the chore of finding momentum and inspiration that has killed that project to some extent. However, I found myself flipping through photographs on my computer sticks this afternoon and pulling a couple of them into Photoshop to mess about with. As I started to collage the layers together, the 3 of Wands was born in it's photographic form as I see it. I think this partly came about because of my interest in photo-decks of late - the Mountain Dream and the Mystic Dreamer especially, but from also looking at the Silver Era deck in
a shop on my visit to London.
I have always found a warmth in the 3 of Wands that has cemented it as a special card for me. I think it was the version from the Light and Shadow Tarot that first struck a chord within, which shows a young man climbing up high to see into the distance. In a sense, mine is not much of a diversion from these traditional images and shows Charlie sitting at the top of a cliff, watching out to sea. He is a natural adventurer, who has escalated to a place of foresight, therefore being able to look out further than others. When I draw this card usually, it speaks of receiving the rewards of hard work. You might see this young man (who modelled for my Horned God card in the Green Tarot) as waiting for such a response from his efforts to arrive on the horizon.
