A Wealth of Friends

This card seems highly appropriate for today; or at least tonight, when we are going to the family birthday party. I have often read this card as celebration, which fits, but in The Cosmic Tribe Tarot, it concerns friendship. Eric Ganther, who wrote the deck's accompanying book, says 'If you are capable of giving and receiving, you will soon be rich in friendships. Wealth is best measured by the number of people you can count on'.

Yesterday was good. I made it over to Kate's for 11 and brought a breakfast of croissants and strawberry jam over with me, which the three of us had before walking into the village. Her daughter has a reward sheet and if she gets the right amount of stickers on it in a week, she is allowed to choose a book from the charity shop there. After doing that, we took her to her grandparent's house, so that the two of us could have a wander and relax up in a local pub garden for a bit. It was so warm yesterday and lovely to sit out and chat. After feeling a little down for a while, I can see my friend mending herself and that old glow I remember is once again returning into her smile. In that sense, today's card has as much relevance for yesterday as it does for today, since friendships and support have helped to restore her to her normal self. After picking up her daughter, we returned to Kate's, where her brother turned up from London to visit her. I don't see him so often, so like the three fairies in this card, jumping about in the light like kids under a garden sprinkler, we chatted on her patio for a bit before I had to leave.

I am still not sure how I feel about today. I guess that I will get into the party when I get there. Today's card would suggest that there are friends to be made there and good times to be had. The fairies in the 3 of Cups are enjoying themselves and look as though they are even being a bit silly. I can see each of them on the dance floor, making the most of the evening and those around them, rather than feeling a tad apprehensive, as I am. Maybe that is the advice of today's card.
