The living room was bleak when we first looked at it, but with our furniture and a few pictures on the wall to divert the eye from the wallpaper, it feels warm and worthy of entertaining in now. I miss our old fireplace, but when we can afford to, we'll pull this old one out and get a new one. This one is dated, but it isn't offensive and works, so we can put up with it for the time being.

The dining room is the first to be sorted. I think we're aiming to strip and start painting in the next week.

The hallway actually has nice wooden floors. After a lick of paint, it should be that bit more welcoming. It is a nice size and is broader than the one we had before.

Out of all the rooms, mine was the worst off. The wallpaper is brown and has been neglected. The carpet is horrific. I have already ordered some floor tiles for it and plan to get on with stripping the paper and painting as soon as I can. Just getting my furniture in and changing the curtains was a step forward for me.

Hi! I have been a lurker on your blog for quite some time. I've been wanting to respond to so many things but never found the time. I don't know what happened at your old home, but I get nothing but really good vibes from your new one. The only thing that scares me is "Little Joe?" For awhile there, I thought that was you in the picture until you mentioned a mannequin! How can you sleep with Joe in your room? It would totally freek me out. Anyway, your new home looks just lovely and quaint despite the old wall paper. I love old wallpaper myself. Actually, wallpaper from the 1940's is really spectacular. I wish nothing but the best of luck. If you have time, I really want to talk to you about that "Instant Tarot Deck" you made some time back. I would love to know what books you used for the cards. Have you kept a record of the books? But now I'm rambling, when you obviously have so much to do. Happy decorating and good luck with your job search!
ReplyDeleteHi Ann!
ReplyDeleteIt's nice to hear from you!
Our neighbours had noisy children and let them run wild, with no consideration for others. They invited up to ten other kids in to their garden at one time, as a way of trying to 'get in' with other families in the neighbourwood. We tried to reason with them about the noise but they reported us to the police for harassment (we only knocked a handful of times over ten years) and then spread lies about us to the other people in the community.
Haha, re Little Joe (named after Joe Dallesandro). I have had him and previous mannequins around for so long, since I used them at fashion school, and hardly even notice they are there now. He always makes everyone else jump when they come in though, lol.
Thanks so much for your words. I like the 1940s style too; it just doesn't work with the other stuff in here. It all needs to be a bit more light and airy.
I don't have a reference for the books I am affraid. I only recently recycled them before moving :( They were ones I had picked up from various charity shops. It was a really simple project to do and only took a few or more hours in an evening.
Thanks for commenting!
I as you know have always had a thing for your old mannequin Jack. I am waiting for Jack's disembodied, white-painted head to come out.....you better not have thrown him out!!
ReplyDeleteI can't believe how much you have done in a week. The glass doors in the hall let in lots of light.
As an honoured owner of an Intant Oracle, I am glad to see you settled in new creative territory.
JJ (Judith Jack-Worshiper)
Now, if people find Joe freaky, then I am sure you're the only one I can think of that would worship Jack's disembodied head, JJ, hehe. It's still upstairs in the loft, after providing instant shocks for removal men and surveyors in the local area ;)
ReplyDeleteGreat work on the re-dos! I know you said you have a ways to go but you've made great progress!
ReplyDeleteIt really is amazing what some staging and a little paint and new flooring can do. :)
The mannequin DOES freak me out, but only a little bit. I'm sure he's friendly. :)
Here's hoping for more fantastic re-dos for you.
The wood cabinets and other pieces in your room really make the space look nice. I like that!
Hugs,
MM
You're right MM. We are yet to refloor and paint, but for the moment, all is fine. My parents are going to strip the bathrooms today.
ReplyDeleteOh yes, Joe is friendly. My boyfriend is slightly stranged-out by him, but think he is getting used to him. As I said, when you are, you kind of forget he's here. However, I do find myself saying hello when I get in here sometimes, without thinking.
That little display cabinet came with the house. I asked the seller if I could buy it from him and he said I could have it :)
