Rules of the Game

As one of my good friends says, 'you know the rules!', so I am bringing a little photography to the blog this evening. After talking about the stone ladies, quirky faces and new bedding plants in today's main post, I knew I would be hung, drawn and quartered if I came without evidence, so here are a few pictures taken in today's early evening sun.

  1. Oh wow, what a place, what a magical garden.

This is really shaping up. I don't know where your parents get the energy, they haven't stopped since last December even with your Dad being ill.

    1. I knew you'd appreciate some pics ;)

It really is shaping up. I always loved the tree in our old garden, but aside from that, it was just a long stretch, where as this one is effectively three different bits in one - the patio at the top, then a lawn to the left, stretching round the greenhouse to another small lawn that leads to the magical bit. All circles round below the patio. Mum and Dad have achieved so much. To be honest, I think that all of this has had a lot to do with his recovery. It keeps him occupied and looking forward. His brother has been here most weeks, laying flooring, fitting kitchens, plumbing, painting etc. I think being with him has done him a lot of good too.

  2. Lovely pics! And I can't believe I went away for a couple of days and you've changed your background and banner again ;) Very elegant, if a little gothic :D

    1. Thanks Chloe!

Haha, I know. I am terrible with the background changes. It was all just a bit too crazy for me before. This fits so much better for the time being.

  3. Wow--amazing garden progress!!

I love everything about it. I wish my yard was interesting. Our new house is super boring in terms of the yard and garden. There are practically no plants, one tree and just grass. Nothing else! No flowers, herbs, etc. I know that I need to put the work in. I'm not used to it because our old house had so many established plants, fruit trees, a grape vine...

Ah well. Time to get off my butt and do something about it, I suppose. :)

High-five to you and your folks! Sending you goodness and continued recovery for your dad.

    Hugs,
    MM

    1. Thanks Menth!

We were a bit worried about that too. We had a very established garden before, but because it was paved, there were many patio pots, which we brought with us. But this garden is pretty established too, round the edges, so it will mean cutting a lot of it back and sorting out the lawn. I am sure that with yours, a bit at a time will eventually build up, like our blogs. Something that Pele might enjoy helping with?

      Thanks for your warm wishes.

  4. Hey Prince Le Normand,

The sense of place that I am getting is very relaxing! I especially like the impish faces popping up here and there. They add a little magic.

    1. Thanks Monica Laura. I like the impish faces too. There are a few others here and there. Many have been around for over twenty-odd years and all have sentimental value - presents on the main, and two figures that my friend and I bought when we went clubbing all night in London when we were about 24. We actually danced around them in a club called Heaven. They needed a bit of glue when we got them home, hehe.

  5. what a beautiful garden!! My mother is a talented gardener too, and the majority of my childhood memories are of being outdoors with her, and of all the places in our garden around our first house. After my parents divorced, she bought a home that had been built, designed, and landscaped by a man who owned a huge landscaping company, so it had all the best things that a gardener could want - a stone riverbed, little garden cottage, wisteria and rose arbors, a pond, huge ornamental trees, etc etc...it's absolutely gorgeous.

I love all the stone beings! Thanks for posting.

I would never have said I was much of an outdoorsy person when I was a kid, but tastes change with age. I love being amongst nature and helping to make this small part of the earth we own beautiful and abundant. Your story sounds lovely.

Thanks so much for dropping by and sharing.
